Born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, I arrived in Canada in the late 80’s. I’ve painted or been involved with art for most of my life. I kept the wolf from the door as an art director and creative director for several major South African and Toronto advertising agencies, until deciding to move out into the country, north of Kingston, to paint full-time in 2003. Since then, I've shown my work with success at various juried events including The Art Gallery of Northumberland's Annual Festival, the Fine Art Festivals in both Merrickville and Westport, and the Cobourg Waterfront Festival. Currently I exhibit at, and am represented by, the excellent new Robert Macklin Gallery in Kingston and by Merrickville's Judith Moore Gallery. I can now be found in downtown historic Cobourg, as well as at artmikesmith@cogeco.ca |
